a relaxing maui babymoon travel guide

When I was thinking of where I wanted to go for my babymoon, I instantly thought of Maui, Hawaii. So at 28 weeks, B and I left the cold midwest and headed to Maui for one of our last trips as a family of two. I’m still finding it hard to believe our next trip will be as a family of three! Needless to say, I know it will be different, but I can’t wait and I hope you feel the same way about your little one on the way. If you are looking for where to stay and what to do while in Maui for your babymoon, take a look below.

MAUI BABYMOON RESORTS

There are two main areas to stay when you go to Maui: West Maui and South Maui. On our first trip to Maui, we stayed in Lahaina which is in West Maui. On this trip, we wanted a bit more relaxation so we chose Wailea in South Maui. Our stay at the Andaz Maui was nothing short of perfection. For those who want a near perfect babymoon, I would chose the Andaz every time. Some of my other favorite resorts on the island are listed below in both the West Maui and South Maui areas.

Regardless of where you choose to stay, I highly recommend renting a car. While the island is tiny, everything is spread out. A drive from Lahaina to Wailea with traffic will take about an hour alone. Plus, you’ll need one if you choose to do the Road to Hana. For the best deals on rental cars, I always use rentalcars.com.

BEST MAUI BABYMOON ACTIVITIES

Maui is clearly a beautiful island and there is a no shortage of activities you can do while there. Pregnancy will limit some of the activities you can do (unfortunately, you’ll have to skip out on the surfing this time around) but you’ll still find plenty of relaxing and fun things to do. Make sure to includes some of these bump-friendly activities.

+ HALEAKALA SUNRISE

Seeing the Haleakala sunrise over Maui was one of the coolest experiences and I highly recommend you add it to your itinerary. This is an activity you’ll need to plan for in advance. A few tips before visiting:

+ Booking a reservation in advance is required.
+ Get there early for a good spot. We woke up at 3 AM to be there by 3:30 and had one of the best spots for the sunrise.
+ Dress warm! Yes, it’s Hawaii but you’ll be so high up (above the clouds!) and it will feel like winter in the Midwest.

+SUNSET SAIL

Another favorite activity for us when visiting Maui is a sunset sail. We’ve been lucky enough to visit during whale season both times and it’s truly a sight you have to see for yourself. There are quite a few sailing options in Maui. We have done one on a sailboat and one on a catamaran. Both were equally great but they offer two totally different experiences. Either way, you’ll love whatever option you choose.

+SNORKEL AT MOLOKINI CRATER

On our first trip, snorkeling at Molokini Crater was one of our favorite activities so we knew we had to do it again. Molokini Crater is famous for being one of the best snorkeling spots in Hawaii. I recommend doing the sunrise snorkel to get out there before it becomes too crowded with other boats. We have done the Kai Kanani tour and the Boss Frog tour. Both are great options. Note, the Kai Kanani tour will have you load on beach rather than a dock so be prepared to get a little wet before getting on the boat.

+ ROAD TO HANA

The Road to Hana is a must on any trip to Maui but especially for your babymoon. Since we had already done the full Road to Hana, we decided to do a mini one this time around. For a full guide with Road to Hana travel tips, check out my guide here. On this trip we decided to do the following stops:

twin falls
aunt sandys & coconut glens
ke’ana peninsula
+ POOL AND DAYBED RENTAL

A go-to while in Maui is having a pool day and taking in some of the idyllic views it has to offer. A great thing about staying at the Andaz Maui was the pool. Or, should I say pools? There’s not just one to choose from, but five and three of them are infinity pools.

+ WEST MAUI BEACH DAY

Maui has more than 80 beaches so needless to say there are plenty of places to relax or even snorkel. West Maui gets the reputation of having the best Maui beaches and here are some of my favorites:

+ Ka’anapali beach
+ Napili Bay
+ DT Fleming Beach

+ SOUTH MAUI BEACH DAY

Even though West Maui claims the best beaches, some of my favorite beaches are in South Maui. Don’t miss out on some of these:
+ Wailea Beach
+ Big Beach
+ Secret Beach
+ Po’olenalena Beach

+ MAUI LUAU

I love going to a Maui Luau to not only eat some great food, but learn about the Maui and Hawaiian culture. We did this on our first trip to Maui and we loved it. Be sure to book your reservation in advance!

+ OTHER RELAXING MAUI BABYMOON ACTIVITIES
restaurants for your maui babymoon

There are so many great restaurants in Maui to make sure that baby (and you!) eat well. You won’t be disappointed by any of the options below but make sure to make reservations well in advance especially for Mama’s! p.s if you want just one recommendation while in Maui, go to Merriman’s. It’s our favorite on the island.

+ Merriman’s Kapula
+ mama’s fish house
+ monkeypod
+ spago
+ morriomoto
+ ka’ana kitchen
+ Leoda’s pie shop
