INSTAGRAMMABLE PLACES IN
MYKONOS, SANTORINI & ATHENS

Looking for that perfect photo opportunity while visiting Greece? Check out some of the most instagrammable places in Greece. I break down the insta-worthy shots in Santorini, Mykonos and Athens.

MYKONOS

WINDMILLS (KATO MAI)

instagrammable places in mykonos greece windmills of kato mai

Tips: Be prepared for the wind when you get to the Windmills (Kato Mai)! Since it’s right off the coast, you’ll get the wind from the sea. Plan to travel here just before sunset. It’s a great time to go because most of the tourists who are only in Mykonos for the day have left and it’s a lot less crowded.

Getting here: [Mykonos, Greece] If you are in Little Venice along the coast, keep venturing south on Xenias street and you’ll run right into the windmills! It’ll be right along to the Little Venice shoreline.

CHURCH OF PANAGIA (PARAPORTIANI)

Getting here: Another Little Venice gem that makes my list of instagrammable places in Greece is the Church of Panagia. Right next to iconic restaurant like Kastro’s and Katerina’s, you can head northwest from there on Agion Anargyron road and you’ll see the bell tower in sight.

Tips: [Mykonos, Greece] This spot is usually pretty packed in the daytime and during sunset. I mean you can’t blame people for flocking here, just look at that gorgeous sunset view! My pro tip is to come here after dark. I’m talking after dinner dark! There is no one there but there are street lights shining right on it and it makes for some epic photo opportunities!

MYKONOS OLD TOWN

Tips: Mykonos Old Town is such a quaint little area. You’ll find tons of instagrammable places here but the best spot in this area of Greece is right next to Heel Athens Lab.

Getting here: [Mykonos, Greece] This exact spot is right in the middle of the square and next to Lalala.

METROPOLITAN CHURCH

Tips: Get up before the town is awake! I know, I know. This is a vacation, right? But do this just once while in Mykonos — I swear it’s worth it! Get up before the rest of the tourists come in for the day and the streets are packed.

Getting here: [Mykonos, Greece] The Metropolitan Church is one of many cute little churches in Mykonos. Check it out in the Little Venice area near Casa di Giorgio.

SANTORINI

AMOUDI BAY

Tips: Moving to Santorini gems. Not only is Amoudi Bay the best hidden gem in Santorini, it makes for an epic instagrammable place in Greece. Pro tip, come early in the morning for fewer crowds and stay the whole morning swimming and jumping off the cliffs. After, grab lunch at one of the restaurants lining the coast.

Getting here: [Santorini, Greece] Amoudi Bay is the hardest spot to find on this instagrammable list. I do a complete guide of how to get here on my Greece tips page!

OIA STREETS

Tips: Honestly, there are so many instagram worthy places in Oia that it could be the town itself could have its own list. Just know, you won’t find a bad spot to take a picture!

Getting here: [Santorini, Greece] To find where I took the street picture, start on the main road of Oia. You’ll take a left after Lotza and Speira Santorini (Speira will be on your right side and Lotza on your left). You should pass Meteor Cafe and keep going down, this spot will be on your left. If you see Zoe Aegeas, you’ll know you’ve gone too far!

ORANGE HOUSE

instagrammable places in greece is the orange house in oia santorini
brunette girl outside the orange house in oia santorini greece

Tips: In a sea full of blue and white, this orange house stands out in all the best ways. When I saw it, I knew I had to snap a couple pictures in front of it. The best part about this instagrammable place is the location. It’s tucked away from the packed streets of Oia, Santorini!

Getting here: [Santorini, Greece] We randomly stumbled upon this instagrammable Greece gem, but you’ll easily find this place by heading towards Vitrin coffee shop off the main road in Oia. Once you reach Vitrin, take a right and keep walking. You’ll run right into it!

BLUE DOMES

instagrammable places in greece blue domes in oia santorini
instagrammable places in greece blue domes in oia santorini

Tips: The blue domes are what you think of when you think of Santorini so it’s what everyone wants to get a picture in front of. That means there are people surrounding this area at. all. times. I’m not going to lie, you’re going to have to wait in line to get a picture like this. Yes, you’ll have to wait in line on vacation to get this picture.

When you see those pictures of instagrammers right next to the domes, they are actually on private property. In order to get that shot, you either have to ask for permission or most people just trespass, which I think is so disrespectful (we are a guest in their city!).

If you reallyyyy want to get fancy and up close with those three gems, you can hire a photographer. They will get you those coveted shots.

waiting in line for a picture of the blue domes in oia santorini greece

So instead of trespassing, we wait in line. ๐Ÿ™‚ Doing things like this is when “getting that perfect shot” even becomes annoying to me, which is saying a lot because I live for instagrammable places! Plus, I may be the most impatient person living today so that plays a big part.

If you come early enough, you may not have to wait — that just wasn’t my experience. Looking back at this picture I honestly cringe and instantly think of the Instagram account Instagrammers in the wild. lol

Getting here: [Santorini, Greece] There are a couple spots to get a picture here. For the picture closest to the domes (without on private property), you will head east on the main road of Oia with the blue domes on your right. You’ll easily find this photo opp as there will be a long line, but take a right after Melenio and follow the steps to the right. You’ll see the blue picket fence and know you’re there!

For the picture further from the domes, this one won’t come with a line but it’s still pretty crowded and the view isn’t as great. This instagrammable place in Greece is located right by Atlantis Books (also a great photo opp). Just head up the stairs and straight — you’ll see the blue domes on your right side.

SUNSET

Tips: Ah, sunset! This is what you come to Greece for, right? It shouldn’t surprise you that there really isn’t a bad spot to see sunset in Greece so that’s why it’s obviously an instagrammable place in Greece.

Getting here: [Santorini, Greece] To find a good sunset spot in Santorini, you can either make a reservation with a restaurant like Athenian House or you scope out a spot in advance in Oia. Neither of those options work for you? They didn’t for me either. That’s why I asked a local what their favorite sunset spot was and it was one of the best finds of the whole trip! If you want to find this spot, let me know and I’ll give you those directions. ๐Ÿ™‚ I still want to keep this hidden gem a little more hidden for locals.

CALDERA VIEW FROM A CATAMARAN

Tips: [Santorini, Greece] Okay, this is just a MUST when you visit Greece. Did you really visit Greece, if you didn’t get in the water?? The answer is no. We absolute loved the catamaran tour that we went on. To book this tour, you can do so on GetYourGuide. Trust me, you won’t regret any part of this tour.

ATHENIAN HOUSE

athenian house in santorini greece
athenian house in santorini greece

Tips: Make reservations at Athenian House in advance and specifically ask for a seat outside! It’s in an old Santorini cave house with inside dining but the outside view is what you came for! This is by far one of the best restaurants for a sunset view. It’s just absolutely stunning.

Getting here: [Santorini, Greece] Santorini definitely doesn’t make it easy to find their restaurants! With all of the stairs and windy turns, you really need to know where you are going even if you are using the map app on your phone.

To find Athenian House, start at the Confetti Dessert Boutique. After passing it on your left, take a right and then a quick left. Go down the stairs past Kivotos and follow the path down more stairs passing Spiliotica Cafe Bar. You’ll take a right and down a few more stairs after Spiliotica. You’ll see Anita’s Villa your right side and you should run right into Athenian House.

ATHENS

PLAKA

plaka streets in athens greece instagrammable places in greece

Tips: There are so many instagrammable places in Plaka, a neighborhood of Athens, Greece. So, anywhere you walk with definitely be picture worthy.

Getting here: [Athens, Greece] You’ll find the cute bike set up right outside the Lotus Center Hotel which is right next to to Pittaki street near the Museum of the Ancient Agora. And, you’ll see the pink flower tree in a cute little spot right outside of Melina Merkouri Cafe off of Tripodon street.
